It’s not only the people of the Bay who have been working hard to get that perfect “summer body”.
Thanks to some clever additions and sculpting the clubhouse at Sardinia Bay Golf & Wildlife Estate is looking in great shape for the festive season.
The most impressive flex comes in the form of a new outdoor seating area where golfers can enjoy a meal and a cold one after a round.
The standout feature here is that the tables and benches are positioned beneath a canopy of luscious natural vegetation.
It offers the perfect amount of shade and leaves players and visitors feeling like they’re enjoying a wonderful day out in the country.
“We paved around the braai area so then we decided to open this [bush adjacent to the clubhouse] up,” explains course steward and Sards resident Stephen Daly.
“It will be quite nice this summer. Already when people come here they say, ‘Oh wow, this is really nice’.”

Club member Byron “Slobby” Breetzke, who has done all the paving on the golf course, stepped in again to help create the new area.
Stephen says there are also plans to develop the garden below, where there was once a swimming pool and children’s play area.
“We’re trying to upgrade the club little bits at a time. We’ve recently painted the deck and are busy redoing the base of the tables as well.”
Visitors will have noticed that the impressive zebra mural has now been joined by a foal sculpture, adding another striking element to the popular deck.
This is also the setting of “Sundowners”, the club’s bi-monthly closest-to-the-pin competition where participants tee off from the deck to the green below.
The pot is currently sitting at over R4 000 so no extra incentive is needed to join the party.
“I think it’s going to become busier as we get into summer and the evenings become longer. I think everything we’ve done will work out quite nicely,” Stephen says.

The most noticeable addition for those who have not played at Sards in a while is the presence of a second deck at the entrance to the clubhouse.
It is scarcely believable but this entire structure is the handiwork of only two men, residents Noel van Onselen and Jim Maitland.
That they put it up in only a matter of days is even more remarkable [Editor’s note: look out for their story on the site later].
Returning golfers will also note that the clubhouse pro shop has been given a makeover.
A feature wall carrying the estate’s zebra logos welcomes players while everything you need for your round – from balls to tees and even a selection of golf shirts – is neatly arranged for your convenience.
It’s a very nice touch that showcases the club’s professionalism without sacrificing any of the warmth and friendliness for which it is known.
